April 8, 2003. The Battle of Baghdad commenced and casualties were handed out on all sides, civilians included. This day changed the lives of many good men, including me, forever. Our battle occurred on the 5 point intersection of Baladayat Street, where the Iraqi Ministry of Defense was located. We were ambushed and surrounded by over 200 Fedayeen and Iraqi Special Forces. We fought courageously through the afternoon, held our positions through the night and prevailed by morning, in which the Ministry of Defense was ours. On this day, we epitomized the title of Marine Corps Infantry and upheld the long lasting traditions of those who fought before us. These Marines are and will always be my brothers who I love dearly and would gladly lay my life down for. Semper Fi my brothers and welcome home.
