April is Counseling Awareness Month (CAM) You can help to spread the word about the power of your profession by engaging local media outlets. NOW is the time to start this process. The documents on our 2014 Counseling Awareness Month page - counseling.org/about-us/counseling-awareness-month-2014 - will explain how to contact your local outlets, what types of newsworthy stories to pitch, and much more. You can view examples of past local media coverage and copy and paste important facts and statistics about the counseling profession, mental health in general, and ACA. You can also reference established language about how the counseling process works, what steps people need to take to begin the process, and how counseling differs from other mental health professions. What is ACA doing to promote CAM? We are working hard to secure national media coverage about counseling and counselors for the month of April. Our Communications team is already pitching reporters with compelling news angles covering everything from integrated health, veteran support, school violence, and much more. We are also collecting I am here video testimonials from members, which will be edited into a series of powerful videos to be distributed and shared via social media and other ACA communications channels throughout the month of April. The goal is to spread the word that professional counselors are passionate, diverse, and committed to helping people from all walks of life and all depths of despair to survive and thrive in todays world. Video guidelines and directions are available here: counseling.org/about-us/counseling-awareness-month-2014 VIDEO DEADLINE: March 24, 2014 at midnight ET.
