Archaeologists, ethnologists and anthropologists have studied the ancient and complex Nazca civilization to try to determine the effect of the lines and figures. One theory is that the Nazca people created such figures so they could be seen by their gods in the sky. The Kosok and Reiche researchers propose an objective related to astronomy and cosmology: the lines were intended to act as a kind of observatory to point to the places on the horizon where the sun and other celestial bodies are born or are put. Many indigenous prehistoric cultures in the Americas and elsewhere built monuments on earth for astronomical observation combined with its religious cosmology, as well as mississippi culture, the current United States.
