Architecture fans will be fascinated by the architectural model currently at Tower Grove Antiques at 3316 Meramec Street in Dutchtown. The model -- with working shutters on mini-hinges, tiny shingles, clear celluloid sheets for the window panes, and clapboard siding -- measures 52 inches wide and 18 inches deep. An engraved brass plaque on the interior reads, William Whitney Lewis, Architect, George L. Litchfield, Builder. According to Brenda Siegel, proprietor of Tower Grove Antiques, Lewis (1850-1933) designed homes up and down the Eastern seaboard. He is best known for the 20 homes he designed in the exclusive Back Bay area of Boston. The Sears Laboratory and the Harvard Medical School are among his designs. Brenda theorizes that the architectural model dates to after 1876, when Lewis started his own firm. She found information through MIT and is in touch with the Cohasset Historical Society. The Cohasset Historical Society is helping identify the actual house built from the model.
