Arctic terns can be seen in the Anchorage Coastal Wildlife Refuge, as seen in this photo by Albert Marquez. They have the largest breeding range of any Alaska water bird - from Pt. Barrow to Southeast Alaska. They also are champion migrators, according to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, flying 24,000 miles round trip between their breeding grounds in the north and their wintering grounds in the Antarctic. Thanks Alaska Magazine for posting the photo.
