Are We There- Sharon Van Etten Now 2014- This will not be - TopicsExpress

Are We There- Sharon Van Etten Now 2014- This will not be everyones cup of tea. It is big and expansive and literary. The songs are more about soundscapes and feel, than rock chords. Somehow, Sharon Van Etten has married together a sound that reminds me of the velvets doing Pale Blue Eyes and doors doing Crystal Ship. Theres a hint of Kate Bush in here, if she had ever found a band that could play. The best part is shes made it her own and although it reminds you of something youve heard, you havent. Every Time The Sun Comes Up, Your Love Is Killing Me are todays favorites, but tomorrow it could be Tarifa or You Know Me Well. We saw the sold out show at the Earl last night and every song was a pleasant surprise. Congrats to the fans who were on this ahead of me, we were out of town when she last played here and now I know what the fuss was. Sharon also sports the best 1966 Jeff Beck haircut ever, Im pretty sure Jeff would be jealous. Her band was spot on and Heather Woods Broderick on keyboards and harmonies is a revelation. A nod here to the booking agent for the Earl, this year has had a steady diet of great live acts. Well done. Anyway, give it a listen and like a fine wine, give it time to breathe, shell get to you, too. One last thing, not a power chord to be found here, but plenty of power. Later
