Are financial worries sapping your energy? If thats the case, youll find comfort and support as you realize that Divine provision is meeting every need: Consider the Lilies In today’s world we experience much stress about how our needs will be met, particularly our financial ones. If you have been on a so-called “fixed” income or dependent on a job or another person for monetary support you know how alarming it can be to have a primary source of income you have counted on –sometimes for years –be reduced suddenly or cut off altogether. We can go into panic mode quite quickly, especially if we are older, have no particular job skills or perhaps a physical disability that prevents us from being gainfully employed. Sometimes it takes a financial crisis to push our backs to the wall. But that wall can be a blessing in disguise! How so? If we are open to Divine direction, it can lead us to the realization that other people and jobs –things outside of ourselves -- are not our Source of supply. We begin to move in consciousness from sheer panic to the realization that material things are but the streams through which the unlimited abundance of the Universe flows toward us. They are not the source, itself. The good news is that the Divine Source is both unlimited and inexhaustible. This means it can never be depleted and it can never run out. And the channels It can use to bless and prosper us are also unlimited. The late Unity minister Mary Kupferle had a wonderful affirmation that I still use frequently when my coffers are low: “God is my All-sufficiency in all things!” Whatever our need, whether it be for financial security or something less tangible like emotional support, comfort, encouragement, guidance, stability, God is our unfailing companion, our steadfast support. Our task, however, is always to keep ourselves free from worry. Then, the Infinite resources of the Almighty are unleashed to work on our behalf. Jesus gives us wonderful counsel in The Sermon on the Mount about setting aside worry about how we will be taken care of in our journey through life: “Take therefore no thought for the morrow, for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself ”(Matt.6:34) As we deal with the present day, the challenges at hand, in faith, we are given the wherewithal -- the strength, the resources, the support needed, in whatever form it is needed -- from moment to moment. This is the daily bread Jesus speaks of in the Lord’s Prayer. In his beautiful discourse on the lilies of the field he assures us of the heavenly provision: Luke 12:27-40King James Version (KJV) 27 Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 28 If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith? 29 And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind. 30 For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things. 31 But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you. 32 Fear not, little flock; for it is your Fathers good pleasure to give you the kingdom. As Jesus tells us above, two things are required on our part: The first is resolutely to set doubt aside and establish ourselves in a consciousness of trust in the provision of our Heavenly Father -- the all-sufficiency of an abundant Universe. Secondly, we are told that if we seek the kingdom of God -- the consciousness of All-good -- which is of course within us, everything needful to function in the human sphere will be supplied easily and gracefully, with no stress, strain or effort on our part. Finally, the Great Teacher reminds us that there is nothing to fear because the Creator desires nothing more than to bestow all manner of blessings upon us. It is the nature of a benevolent Universe to pour Itself out, upon us and for us, unceasingly. As we consider the lilies -- the glorious beauty and effortless bounty all around us – we relax in the secure knowing that all of our needs are supplied, at the time they are needed and at any time in the future. Today let’s affirm: I rest in the awareness that God loves me and cares for me always. I am grateful for His all-providing love. pearlgem7.wordpress
