Are raw diets for pets healthy or a health hazard? Many people - TopicsExpress

Are raw diets for pets healthy or a health hazard? Many people dont know what raw diets actually are. Raw diets are NOT going to the grocery store to buy chicken or beef, freezing it, thawing it and tossing it in the dog bowl. Thats not only a health hazard for your pets, its a health hazard for you and your family (when your dog eats that chicken then licks your face - guess what! That lovely bacteria gets transfered to you!). Not to mention just feeding meat to a pet is not a complete diet. Most healthy raw diets are manufactured by specialized pet food companies and the food is often human grade (it meets standards/inspections that are safe for human consumption - though I wouldnt recommend human try it - youll know why if you keep reading). The meat is raw, but its sterilized under very high pressure (without heat) to kill bacteria. Then, its either freeze dried or frozen to prevent contamination during shipping/storage. Most companies use organ meat as well as muscle meat (heart, liver, etc) - sounds gross to people but that meat is packed with nutrients and proteins. Veggies, vitamins, minerals and other nutrients from natural sources appropriate for your dogs or cats digestive system are added to to make a balanced healthy meal for your pet. These diets are not only safe but often healthier than many dry dog foods that contain excess calories and carbs. My only caution is once your pet goes raw, they dont go back! ;)
