Are the Homeless or the barely making it, the very people who needs entertainment or enjoyment of life? Enjoyment Is Part of Life. The other day, as someone told me they do not know how they will meet this months rent, I told her that we stopped at what was to us, a happenstance of finding a wild life rescue place showing off their bear cubs and allowing photos with tigers. It was set up by a reptile pet store, not a mile away from where I live. When I showed her the photo her eyes both lighted up, then I could see hurt for her own family. If they were struggling to pay rent. They could not afford a luxury as a photo. The rescue was going to be their for the entire week end. So after a few minutes I found my hand on the twenty bucks for our food, coming out to her so they could have a lasting reminder of them as a family. Either God will find a way to replace that $20, or I will eat less, or cheaper, beans and rice instead of cheese and meat. But the tigers were going to be there only one day more if at all. I will feel great about their photo. Enjoyment IS part of life. And it should not be limited to only when someone can afford it, or some people will go their entire life without any enjoyment- that is merely existing, not living. While advocates think about the basics, maybe we should also think about treating our neighbors to a small treat, so they feel human. It will lift up the standard of life, for us every-time we do. Is it time we move away from just providing the basic, and instead of selfishness and greed, we seek to find our joy in providing other glee?
