Are we REALLY thankful in all circumstances? Or are we just so - TopicsExpress

Are we REALLY thankful in all circumstances? Or are we just so much in the practice of saying thank you from the pressure of society, or are we genuinely inline with Pauls instructions to the Thessalonians: 1 Thess 5:16-18 Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. We instruct our children to say thank you even when they dont mean it- in fact, I have heard parents basically punish children who dont. Is that teaching gratitude or social pressure, placating those around us who think we should be saying it, just as our parents once did? Is our thanks essentially sarcastic? How do we know the difference? This is what I find myself wrestling with- Id fully welcome your thoughts on it. Does practice make perfect, essentially? Is it a fake it to make it scenario? If we say thank you enough, will we start meaning it? For the moment, I think like many things with Paul the surrounding text gives a clue. If we are not praising/rejoicing and praying... we may not be truly thankful! Well get into more thoughts about this next time, but I do welcome your comments about this!
