Are we at the beginning of a new wave of protests in Turkey? As the summer draws to an end, and many students have returned to the cities, another set of trees has awoken the Gezi spirit that appeared to have been slumbering for a while. Certainly, with the recent rainbow mini-revolutions, the slogans in the stadiums, and the continuing public forums the Gezi spirit was kept alive, but it is not to be denied that there were some fears it had lost its momentum. With thousands flocking to the streets across the country in response to the violent police crackdown on a group of students that tried to protect the trees at their campus in Ankara, today could be the start of a new wave of protests.
