Are we gonna witness a new bilateral row over the rise in vehicle entry permit for foreign-registered cars from Aug 1? Private cars go up from $20 to $35 per day while trucks/goods vehicles from $10 to $40 per month. JB side now said to be mulling similar measures for entry into Malaysias borders. Malaysians asking for reason while at the same time acknowledging that Sg has a right to do such things. I looked up the reason...LTA says fee increase is part of its periodic review to ensure that “the cost of owning and using a foreign-registered vehicle in Singapore is commensurate with that of owning and using a Singapore-registered vehicle”. What in heavens name does this mean?? Especially with Sgs sky-high car prices??? Or are people living here buying Malaysian-registered cars cos its cheaper? That it? I wouldav thought one reason would have been to ease traffic congestion in this already-congested island....
