Are we here to debate yoga practice? Or are we here to reveal the truth about Satyananda yoga? We can question the validity or originality of his teachings all day, but it simply becomes a debate about the merits of his philosophy as well as yogic philosophy in general. Im not saying this isnt a valid debate or that this is unimportant, but the strings of comments dedicated to this discussion do not ring true with what this group is about. It is about uncovering the truth about the darker side of SY. Yes yogic practice can be a positive force, but I feel that we are getting distracted from the situation at hand. The posts are great, and pointed, but the comments that follow feel like a loss of focus. Being the son of a survivor, and having met many other survivors, I know these people are not invested in yoga at all. Yoga is the guise under which they were abused. Many have strong mental and physical reactions when confronted with it. You would not be a member of this group if you were not well meaning, but discussing yogic philosophy and practice in this space does not foster an environment in which abused persons will feel safe coming forward. By all means start another forum for your discussion but please keep this as a supportive, safe and focused environment.
