Are we saying no one has done anything commendable? That would be - TopicsExpress

Are we saying no one has done anything commendable? That would be dangerous, painting all our leaders with the same brush is dangerous. A Fashola is better than an Ochendo, and you cannot compare a Kwankwaso with an Ahmed Fatai. We should strive to concede the difference. There ARE differences. There is a governor investing in infrastructure and human capital development in his state, and there is another who gives no damn about developing the most important city in his state. There is one who has invested heavily in public schools across his state over a period of 7 years and there is one whose schools are still in their pre 2003 conditions. Yes, there are problems, many problems in these states whose governments are praised. But It would be equally stupid for us to expect a govt to solve all the problems within few years, what we demand for is that they set things in motion, they work in the right direction. I cannot for example blame the high level of poverty and unemployment in the black American community on the Obama govt, but we can assess whether Obama is setting stuff in motion that will better the lot of that constituency. Our criticism of government should be considered, measured and sincere, it should be devoid of sheer emotion. I cannot join the ignorant and unhelpful campaign of ‘no one is doing anything in Nigeria.’ Some are working and if we cant encourage them or help them we shouldn’t condemn them either. #thisisarant in response to a post.
