Are you Broken-Hearted? Jesus launched His public ministry with these words, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted...” Luke 4:18 Jesus declared of Himself that God had called and anointed and sent Him to "heal the broken hearted.” The ministry of healing the broken hearted is, indeed, one of God’s most profound ministries to mankind. Speaking prophetically of Jesus, Isaiah spoke these words, “A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench...” “Isaiah 42:3 It is possible that believers have all wisdom and be filled with understanding, but still have Broken Hearts. We can educate our minds, grow in our giftings, and exercise our bodies to a place of health, but still be Broken Hearted. The only truly effective remedy for a Broken Heart is a profound experience of Real Love — the Love of God. If our hearts are broken, the pain and darkness inside will “leak out” into all other aspects of our lives — into our thoughts, our emotions, our bodies, our relationships. But when our hearts are healed and we are Whole-Hearted, we can also become sound in our minds, settled in our souls, healthy in our bodies, and rich in our relationships. Knowledge is important. Going to church can be helpful. Studying great books can give us wonderful insights. But if our hearts are broken, we cannot be well. I pray for you what Paul prayed for the Ephesians, that you might know the height, the breadth, the length, and the depth, and to Know the Love of Christ that passes knowledge, that your Heart will be Healed.
