Are you a person of courage? It takes courage to be someone who - TopicsExpress

Are you a person of courage? It takes courage to be someone who openly professes faith each day, not just on Sunday when I am with my like-minded friends. Monday morning is when the rubber hits the road and the conviction of my faith must be lived. In todays gospel, John 16:29-33, Jesus mentions courage and connects it to peace. This may sound strange but if we give it some prayerful thought today it makes a lot of sense. If I live with courage, I will be true to myself and the person I am meant to be as I live out my particular relationships. If we face the practical challenge of being Christian or any person of deep faith we will know an inner peace that Jesus promises. I am so sad for people who are so brain washed that they become suicide bombers who take the lives of many innocent people believing that this act of violence and destruction will bring peace. True courage must always lead oneself and others to inner peace. Do you see it this way? Jesus warns us that in the world we will have trouble but promises to give us the resource - the gift of the Holy Spirit who will always have our backs. We do not have to be afraid of what the day will bring but trusting that we will be given the strength to deal with what ever comes. Ask yourself again do you believe this. What power does it have in your daily life. If I do not use this resource, I am like a unplugged lamp. So what attitude will you bring to this Monday? Right now are you in a place of peace? Do you have peace in Jesus? Take a few quiet moments of prayer before you answer. -- Msgr. John Barry
