Are you attending a town hall meeting during the August recess? Here are some questions about immigration reform you could ask. SAMPLE IDEAS FOR TOWN HALL QUESTIONS: 1) Over the last four years, Immigration and Customs Enforcement detained and deported more than 1.4 million people – the highest number in U.S. history. This includes deporting the parents of more than 100,000 U.S. citizen children in fiscal year of 2012 alone. How would you change these detention and deportation policies to promote family unity? What are you doing in congress to work on passing compassionate immigration reform this year? 2) For me and so many others here, family unity is a central value that holds our community together. The family immigration system is very restrictive, and has waitlists as long as 24 years. How would you help to reunite these separated families and prioritize family unity in our immigration system? Do you support a pathway to citizenship, and what are you going to help enact immigration reform this year?
