Are you being gouged by, well, everyone? I made a vow to buy as much as I can on Amazon. The greatest savings being my driving around time. Some items tie with local pricing, including paper products like toilet and towels. I can beat local CostCo from Amazon, and I live in a small island in the middle of nowwhere. Overall what I can tell you is: - It worth checking in stores, because in general, a store will have it cheaper than you can get it on Amazon. Please dont give me lots of examples where you got a great price on Amazon, your shoppping list is not 1:100th of mine. Im telling you, with data, there is some store somewhere close (probably) that has it for less. - The price differences OFTEN reach 50%, that can really add up! And I mean the difference between Home Depot and Lowers and Sears and Amazon, etc. I will find $100 object in one place selling for almost $180 somewhere else, then $90 somewhere else. not all commodities are commodities. - If you are not in a hurry, keep a list, log it. I use codes to note where I saw something for a given price. xl = Lowes, xhd = Home Depot, xa = Ace, xaz = Amazon. etc. A gallon of Bondo is $22 at xkm, best price on the island, and on Amazon. - Dont forget, it is REALLY easy to return things to big box stores. And if it was something silly, you can often just swap. - Your time is worth something dont forget that. brightviolet.wordpress/2010/05/18/amazon-coms-price-discrimination-how-your-amazon-prime-membership-isnt-such-a-good-deal-after-all/
