Motivation has only linguistic conventions as its base and is another example of an ordinary language concept entering the scientific domain and complicating scientific relations by carrying with it other terms from the conceptual scheme to which it belongs. Dickinson (1989) and Bernstein (1990) note also that the concept derives from the philosophical presupposition that at least some aspects of behaviour are internally self-generated; the person-as-agent assumption."
