Are you folks sitting down? I have the most wonderful and amazing news! In March of 2003, Dennis had a CT scan done of his brain that showed significant build-up of plaque and was diagnosed with moderate to moderately severe Alzheimers disease. He was immediately put on full strength, maximum doses of Aricept. Five years later another medication, Cerefolin was added and finally two years ago Namenda was included in his battle. We have played more games of cards, Monopoly and checkers than can be imagined. He researches and plants his own garden. He maintains his own vehicle. His IPad is loaded with strategy and puzzle games. And, finally Luminosity has been a real challenge, but very effective. We regularly visit historical places. And, of course, Disney is a wonderful mental stimulus! Three weeks ago, Dennis had another CT Scan. This time, the scan showed he has no more plaque than anyone of his age. His Alzheimers has been halted! He continues with his medication to insure it doesnt return and it does not reverse the damage already done, but thanks to his medication, the onslaught of Alzheimers is stopped in it tracks. I think Ill open that bottle of champagne tonight and take a deep breath. What a great way to end the week...and the month.
