Just received this: If you are a coach in the state of Tennessee or have family/friends you can alert there, please be aware that a bill is advancing for possible vote tomorrow (Wednesday, the 2nd) that would add the following activities to the practice of psychologists, thereby subjecting such activities to the laws and rules governing psychologists and the practice of psychology: (1) Forensic psychological evaluation; (2) Parent coordination; (3) Life coaching; and (4) Executive coaching. SB 2479 may be voted on as early as THIS WEDNESDAY (4/2/14), which could take the practices of life coaching and executive coaching and limit them to ONLY being practiced by licensed psychologists. I encourage those in Tennessee and/or any who have good connections in Tennessee to at least contact the offices of your elected representatives to emphasize that coaching is not about brokenness or healing but about growth from a place of stability and health and, as such, should not fall under the professional regulations of the mental health field.
