Are you living or do you just exist? And how can you tell the - TopicsExpress

Are you living or do you just exist? And how can you tell the difference? You might be thinking that you are living, but really merely existing. Lets explore this for the sake of gaining clarity. It is so easy to be living in a delusion since reality can be so illusive. No one is born with an ego. It only starts forming once a baby becomes aware of itself as a separate entity. One of the first things it learns is to respond to a sound, which we call his name. We have four baby boys now in our community from 6 months to one year and 5 months as well as some more babies that friends had all around the same time last year. It is fascinating to watch as they develop their skills and one can see that it is quite natural for humans to continuously be developing more and more advanced skills. Ironically, schools seem to inhibit this process from progressing and many children slow down their learning of skills and almost completely stop. One might imagine, that in the new paradigm, the happy new world, one just becomes more and more skillfull at more and more things, following and living ones passions. This is real self-reliance, real education, and real freedom. Freedom is the ability to do whatever you want to do, tempered with responsibility. It is a birthright for all living things. Yet human beings have very little experience with it, coming as we all do from a dysfunctional, tyrannical, and corrupt society. We have always been enslaved and deluded into thinking that we are free. The idea of freedom in this corrupted existence is to have the choice to buy coke or pepsi, to vote for bad or stupid. The freedom we enjoy is extremely limited, and therefore not really freedom. Very few people would even know what to do if they had freedom. Just imagine if your money problems were over, you have just inherited one billion dollars. Now what are your going to do? If you were free to do whatever you could imagine, what would it be? Many people would have to think awhile about this, because money is supposedly the ticket to freedom in the world now, as we know it. And like a bird who has spent its life in a cage, when the door is opened, it will often just stay next to the cage. To spend ones life following ones passions. This would be living as opposed to existing, which is the opposite. To live, one must be truly free. Free from conditioning and free from authority or tyranny. Free from the illusion of the ego, the false sense of self. Free to do as you please, while respecting the freedom of others. Free to follow ones passions. Many in the current paradigm never even discover their passions, much less follow them. This is the norm in the slave environment that we call the real world. For over 10,000 years humanity has not experienced real freedom. We have forgotten how to be free. Try to imagine a world where everyone is free. It is very difficult. What would it look like? In our eco community, we are just taking our first baby steps in this direction. We are slowly learning how to be free. The children are the best example for us, as they are enjoying freedom the most here. They choose to go to our alternative school that the parents have created for them, four hours, 5 days a week. And the rest of the time, they pretty much play constantly together. Their play takes many forms. It can be swimming, making things, practicing circus skills, leaning to play music, swinging around on the material hanging from the high ceiling in the malokka (the round building with no walls) cooking, helping, playing with the animals, taking care of the babies, to name a few.
