STUDENT SERVICES ASSISTANT (FAIRFAX, VA) Organization: StudyThePlanet (STP), LLC Position Title: Student Services Assistant Duty Station: Fairfax, VA Department: Housing Solutions Type of Appointment: Internship (small stipend provided) Duration: 6 months (first month probation) with possible extension into permanent position Position Purpose: The Student Services Assistant at StudyThePlanet and Housing Solutions will report directly to the Housing Director and Chief Operating Officer (COO) for all for all duties. The Student Services Assistant will provide on-going student support, help design and implement student educational and cultural training and programs, assist with marketing and communications, and be responsible for various administrative tasks related to student services. Specific responsibilities: • Closely communicate with international students and scholars prior to, during, and after their stay in the US to help address their issues and concerns; • Advise students on best practices in, cultural adjustment, cross-cultural communication, academic training, etc. • Develop, coordinate, and evaluate educational training programs (arrival, pre-departure, and re-entry orientation programming) • Support current programs, projects, and ongoing events at StudyThePlanet and STP Housing Solutions. • Provide necessary technical help with devising project proposals and locating grant opportunities • Process admissions forms • Greet students, answer telephones, schedule appointments for STP Housing Solutions and StudyThePlanet • Draft letters, edit documents, print/organize/file. • Support social media marketing (liking, sharing, posting, re-posting, analyzing, reporting, commenting, following, etc.) • Serve as liaison between STP Housing Solutions/StudyThePlanet and students • Help design and implement international educational and exchange programs • Represent StudyThePlanet at formal meetings, seminars, conferences, and trainings • Other duties as assigned by President/Vice President, Chief Operating Officer (COO), and Housing Director Qualifications and Skills: • Background/experience in student services will be highly regarded • Background/experience in international/intercultural education and educational programming • Team player and committed to achieving outstanding results • Demonstrated professional experience with Microsoft-related software packages, in particular Excel or other spreadsheet related software and/or tools • Excellent communication, presentation, marketing and sales skills • High level of professional integrity in dealing with students and student issues • Ability to apply cross-cultural sensitivity and communication techniques • Ability to resolve and mediate conflict • Excellent organizational skills; ability to prioritize tasks in order to meet set deadlines If interested, send your Resume/CV and brief description of your motivation to studytheplanet.llc@gmail by 5 pm, Wednesday, July 31, 2013.
