Are you, or do you know, a young person who would like to challenge injustice in the world around them using creative strategies? Or are you concerned about the ethics of the shift of arts funding towards corporate sponsorship? Or would you like to explore what a world and an energy system beyond neoliberalism looks like? Wed like to invite you to the following events coming up in London. 1. Take The Money And Run? An event about ethics, funding and art 29 Jan 2015. 10am-5pm; drinks 5pm-6pm Toynbee Studios, 28 Commercial Street, London E1 6AB £12.50, including tea/coffee, lunch and a complimentary copy of our study room guide. 15 free places are available by application to those on low / no income As artists and arts organisations are increasingly asked to seek support from private sponsors, questions about cultural values, the ethics of fundraising, and who we are prepared to take money from are becoming more and more urgent. There has been a groundswell of debate about the conflicts and contradictions between commerce and culture. Take the money and run? is a day of presentations, provocations and discussions by artists, activists, academics, producers and journalists looking at the challenges of fundraising ethically and a range of strategies we might consider for the future. The event features live, remote, recorded and written contributions from Dave Beech, Rachel Spence, Mel Evans, Eriel Deranger, Kelli McCluskey, Mark Ravenhill, Jen Harvie, Judith Knight, Jess Worth, David Cross, Heather Ackroyd & Dan Harvey, and Glen Tarman. Produced by Live Art Development Agency, Artsadmin and Home Live Art, in collaboration with Platform. Shake! #StatesOfViolence flyer 2. Shake! 2015 - #StatesOfViolence 16-20 Feb 2015. For a short application form & for more info, email: [email protected] 16-25? Angry about the injustice you see around you? Come shake tings up with performance poets, film-makers, musicians & activists on a free 5 day course to creatively express frustrations & concerns about the world you live in. This February, Shake! takes on the theme #StatesOfViolence. Poet, performer, and Shake! co-facilitator Zena Edwards writes: In the shadow of discourses about institutionalised racism and a sinister growth of the prison industrial complex, millions watched and condemned the deaths of Eric Garner, Tamir Rice and Mike Brown, unarmed black males, who are among the ‘one killed every 28 hours ‘ by the hand of US police. ... The law upholds these ‘justified’ deaths throwing in to deep question the integrity of a justice system seen to be the spine of a democracy forced through conflict in other mineral resourced countries across the planet. ... This is an idea of some of the subjects we will cover in Shake!’s ‘States of Violence’ intensive course in February. 3. After Neoliberalism?
