Are you passionate about girls’ issues around the world? Do you want to speak with global leaders, activists, politicians and change-makers about girls’ rights? The Working Group on Girls is looking for a team of dynamic, passionate, motivated Girl Advocates to join them this year and make sure girls’ voices and experiences are heard, listened to and taken seriously at the United Nations! WGG Girl Advocates work to “make girls visible” within the UN System. Girl advocates have the opportunity to: • Be a girl delegate for the 58th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW 58) at the United Nations in March 2014; • Learn how the UN system interacts with non-profit organizations; • Meet other girls, women and organizations engaged in the girls’ rights movement; • Gain an in depth understanding of the issues and topics that affect girls and their communities around the world; • Help plan advocacy events for the UN community; • Meet with members of the UN community such as diplomats, nonprofit leaders, and activists for girls’ rights; and • Participate in WGG taskforces and committees such as Girls Against Violence, Advocacy, or Girls Participation Taskforce. WGG encourages girls in 9th and 10th grade to apply. Applicants must be able to: • Attend and participate in WGG membership meetings from October 2013 through June 2014. Meetings are held 2:00PM to 4:00PM on the 1st Thursday of the month in New York City. • Participate in assigned WGG taskforces or committees. • Participate in the Teen Orientation to CSW 58 (mid-March 2014). • Attend and participate in the Commission on the Status of Women meetings from March 10th to 21st 2014. • Complete up to three hours of work per week, including meetings, required readings, and reporting.
