Are you ready for close-up? Join us this Saturday, 2pm for our Classic Saturday Screening of the superb Sunset Boulevard. Often cited as one of the best American films ever made, this classic noir stars William Holden as an unsuccessful screenwriter who finds himself hopelessly attached (albeit temporarily) to Norma Desmond (played immaculately by Gloria Swanson), a forgotten silent star, living in exile in her grotesque mansion, screening her old films and obsessively dreaming of a comeback. Roger Ebert apponited the film into his ‘Great Movie’ Hall of Fame and described Gloria’s performance as ‘one of the greatest of all film performances’ and Norma Desmond’s closing line: “There’s nothing else. Just us, and the cameras, and those wonderful people out there in the dark. All right, Mr. De Mille, I’m ready for my closeup.” as one of the greatest closing lines of all time. The film won three Academy Awards in 1951 including Best Writing, Story & Screenplay and Best Art Direction. It won multiple Golden Globes the same year including Best Motion Picture and Best Motion Picture Director. 1950 / Running time 110 mins
