Are you still locked into thinking “Im too tired” “Im too busy” “Ill start tomorrow” to start your journey to better health. Im too tired. Does this mean you go to bed late after watching TV for hours and then find it hard to get up in the morning? Then stop watching TV for hours.Im too busy, does this mean you are working 24/7? No........then you do have time.Ill start tomorrow, does this mean youre putting off being active and exercising because you dont know where to start. Then keep reading. Being busy, tired, or putting off exercise is one big step closer to a more unhealthy lifestyle. Tomorrow your health professional may tell you your blood pressure is too high and that you need to bring it down. Tomorrow you may collapse after working 24/7 and need to take sick leave from work because of stress. Isnt it amazing when you are faced with an illness and are forced to take a break there is time. In fact there is plenty of it 24/7, everyday, every week, every month, every year. Now your thinking is “if only”. If only I had taken time to look after myself, to exercise, to eat better and to de-stress, I wouldnt be wasting my time doing nothing. Its great to have a full life, to have busy times in business, to have a family to run around after. However, it is also important you take time out for yourself, to exercise and remain healthy so you are able to think and perform clearly in those times of stress, and to keep doing the things you enjoy. Start by taking 10 minutes now to sit and think about your health. What shape is it in? What changes could you make right now to improve it? Start by making the smallest of changes such as going to bed earlier ensuring you get eight hours of sleep. Changes like marking your calendar one day a week so you get out from your work station and go for a walk. It could be as easy as making a phone call to a friend asking for help to get started with exercise. Set yourself realisic goals and take small steps to change your lifestyle. You will experience a sense of accomplishment with each step and ultimately reach your destination of good health. We see many people with major health concerns wishing they could undo their lifestyle habits of overeating and inactivity. There are many agencies in our community working together to help people improve their way of life. For some people working out in a gym seems a very public way to exercise and it is. However where else would you find a group of people more dedicated to improving their health and yours in an environment where every single person is there for for the same reasons as you – to be healthier. You will find people who will support and encourage you, who will give you that boost of motivation when the going gets tough, and become friends you connect with. If you are not exercising, and think working out in a gym is a last resort, then think again. Do you want to be surrounded by healthy like minded people giving you loads of support, or do you want to lay on the couch and face major health concerns that prevent you from even moving. Its your choice. There is no need to become a statistic.
