Are you thinking of making progress spiritually and physically in 2015? Change/repentance is inevitable to progress. However, one area where many will not bother to think about when they are thinking of areas to examine and repent of sins in their lives is their doctrines, the thoughts, beliefs, convictions that determine their choices, actions and words especially in the face of troubles or much pleasure. Many are so convinced upon their convictions and feelings and philosophies and ways of life that they are correct in their footing with God in those areas. What they think they need is more knowledge on how to perform this and that and attain this height and that height. But, if any repentance at all as we draw closer to 2015, look for the greatest warnings associated with the end times. Go through all the passages about end times and the greatest warnings are not about morality but about false teaching, false teachers and the tendency for believers to be drifting carelessly towards false doctrine to their total damnation! Many such believers going astray will be those who do their best to take care of their moral outlook but without watching their doctrines, they drift into works of the law and focus on the externals unconsciously. It is like someone who sees smoke in his/her house and the one who secretly lighted the fire shouts: “It is fog caused by increase sun–heat on the cold stuff in the house – don’t worry you’re better with more heat!” Then you happily go on with your life, singing and making merry, counting yourself blessed because from now on, your house will know some heat. But before you know it, you and your house are consumed in fire and you start crying for mercy when it is too late. Paul says the law of God is against all that is contrary to sound doctrine! (1 Tim. 1:10). Don”t go about with the ax of the law on your head even though you get promotions, praises, successes etc. Go about blessed even though you go through the valley of the shadow of death!
