Area Van Driver ( Barnardos - Blackpool FY4 The Retail section consists of a continually expanding chain of Barnardos shops across the UK . These high-street stores are reliant on donations from the public and corporate supporters, and generate funds from the sale of these donated items. There are a wide range of shops, from traditional charity stores to book shops and furniture. The Trading division produces and sells a range of products, including cards and gifts. Brief Description Provide a cost effective logistical service to the area. Represent Barnardos as an efficient and charitable organisation by ensuring that your actions reinforce the Barnardos Basis and Values. Duties include: o In conjunction with Area Business Manager create a van rota which effectively moves stock from Branch to Branch across area on a weekly basis. o Maintaining and administration log. o Being responsible for ensuring vehicle is maintained within Barnardos Transport Policy and Procedure. o Driving in a courteous manner. Detailed Description o Ensure Branches receive a delivery and collection service on a weekly basis. o Ensure that valuables and fragile items are handled appropriately to avoid damage. o Provide excellent levels of customer service when dealing with external customers, agencies and local business. o Fulfil record-keeping requirements. o Day to day care and maintenance of vehicle. STOCK o Actively encourage donations from any source. o Promote Gift Aid if collecting stock from the donating public. o Support Area stock procurement initiatives. STAFF PLACEMENTS AND VOLUNTEERS o Actively recruit volunteers and provide training so they are able to perform their jobs efficiently and effectively. o Ensure they are aware of Barnardos policy and procedure in relation to stock procurement and handling. o Supervise placements and provide feedback to managing agencies. o Ensure placements are capable of moving stock safely. HEALTH AND SAFETY o Complete risk assessments in relation to vehicle, loading and handling loads. o Comply with Health and Safety regulations in relation to vehicle. o Report any maintenance issues immediately to Fleet Support. o Report any incident or accident in relation to the vehicle in accordance with Transport Policy and Procedure. o NB This role involves continuous manual handling of stock, in volume on a daily basis. It will require a reasonably high level of fitness and exertion, including carrying stock up and down stairs on a daily basis. A LWB Transit van holds approximately 200 bags of 8Kg stock which you would be required to load and unload at various locations throughout the day. o It will also involve moving, lifting, loading and unloading irregular boxes and small items of furniture. There will be a requirement to work in both confined and challenging spaces on occasions. Job Requirements All criteria are essential unless otherwise denoted. QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE o Basic literacy or numeracy at a level to read and write simple messages, carry out simple calculations, instructions or maintain simple records. o Able to read maps. o Full clean driving licence. EXPERIENCE o Driving experience of driving a 35 cwt van. o Driving experience multi drop deliveries. (Desirable) o Experience of dealing with the general public. o Experience of route planning. Additional Details CIRCUMSTANCES o Willing to work some Saturdays and Sundays if required. o Willing to work evenings if required. o Willing to stay away overnight. o Willing to attend training courses and meetings. o The post requires a major element of lifting - e.g. bags of donations and furniture. HOURS o All full time shop based positions are 35 hours per week. All full time Area Business Manager, Area Van Driver, Driver and Organiser, and Van Porter positions are 36.25 hours per week.
