Area forecast discussion National Weather Service Jacksonville Florida 942 am EDT Tuesday Jul 15 2014 Update... well this morning it is looking at deja vu all over again! Our convection that moved across the Gainesville area early this morning is diminishing as it moves into the Palatka area. That said convection is popping over the Nature Coast again this morning and with a synoptic south to southwesterly flow expect the Gulf of Mexico sea breeze front to be dominate with a line of strong thunderstorms moving across North Florida this afternoon. This evening is when it gets more interesting as the...well advertised polar vortex...drops southward it is pushing a pretty impressive summertime cold front ahead of it. Expect prefrontal convection to fire across southeast Georgia late this afternoon and continue well into the evening and overnight hours. Wednesday morning expect widespread convection across the area and the morning commute will not be a pretty one. && Aviation... increasing southwest flow will bring earlier start times to convection around 15z at kgnv and around 17z/18z at coastal taf sites. Expect cumulonimbus bases in the 3-5 kft range once again with scud layers in the 1.5-2.5 kft range. && Marine... southwest flow around 15 knots expected through Thursday...may be brief periods of nocturnal surges close to 15-20 knots with seas 3 to 5 feet and may need caution headlines at times but advisory conditions are not expected. Main marine hazard will be offshore moving storms from the land areas that may be quite strong with gusty winds and frequent lightning. Rip currents: low risk. && Preliminary point temps/pops... amg 93 72 90 66 / 70 50 60 20 ssi 90 76 87 74 / 50 50 70 40 jax 92 73 87 69 / 50 40 70 50 sgj 90 75 85 74 / 50 40 70 50 gnv 91 73 85 69 / 60 50 70 50 ocf 92 73 84 72 / 60 50 80 50 && Jax watches/warnings/advisories...
