Argentina Argentina 5% broken rice ended their month at $620 per ton down about 1% from a month ago, and down about 6% from a year ago. The Argentine peso declined about 2% in August, and has been on a steady decline for the last several years. However, the nation’s ag export sector is hampered by high taxes. According to USDA post, Argentina’s rice exports in MY 2012-13 (April – March) are expected to decline to about 500,000 tons, down about 16% from about 593,000 tons exported in the previous year and down about 20% from USDA official estimates of about 625,000 tons, due to high production costs and lower production. Argentina’s rice production in MY 2012-13 is expected to reach at 910,000 tons, down about 9% from about 1 million tons produced in the previous year. The USDA Post expects that Argentina’s rice production in MY 2013-14 will reach about 975,000 tons, down about 2% from USDA official estimates of about 1 million tons, and exports will reach about 550,000 tons, down about 12% from USDA official estimates of about 625,000 tons.
