Arguing a far-right anti-DACA GOP provision went too far, 26 moderate Republicans rebelled against an amendment to the Department of Homeland Security funding bill that would end President Barack Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA — an initiative that grants stays of deportation to undocumented immigrants brought into the country illegally by their parents. The far-right amendment passed the House narrowly, 218-209. The overall House package is highly unlikely to get the 60 votes needed to advance in the GOP-controlled Senate, and the Obama administration has threatened to veto the changes to the presidents immigration policy.
