Arif Yunus, a conflict expert at the Institute for Peace and Democracy was detained today and his home arrest was replaced by imprisonment. His wife Leyla Yunus was arrested a week ago and is kept in the Baku Detention Center. They both are accused of high treason, tax evasion, power abuse and illegal entrepreneurship. Azerbaijan government continues its tramping down on civil society. The government lately has become very intolerable against critical voice and many confirm that the arrests target the critical voices to silence. EU, US, CoE, International human right organizations are calling on the Azerbaijani government to abide by its international commitments. So far, no aligning with those calls and statements are there.
