Ariogbo Reveals To The Ronsho That, Dr. Sylvia Blyden Takes Time To Make Everyone Feel Special. Abdul Karim Fonti Kabia is highly venerated as Salone’s Ariogbo. His pen is precise, articles well written, and frankly has a unique style of reporting on the issues dear to Sierra Leoneans. Reading Dr. Sylvia Olayinka Blydens Awareness Times (AT for short) several years back, I first ran across the name Fonti Kabia. As an ardent reader and writer, I am sometimes able to sieve through the ‘wheat and tare’ in the field of journalism. Having read the Awareness Times since it first appeared online, one fact I have observed is that Dr. Blyden, the paper’s proprietor facilitates the professional development of aspiring journalists and writers in Sierra Leone. Because of her professionalism to Abdul Fonti and others, the country has a pool of young and hearty journalists. Would the leaders of the nation utilize their talents or repress their talents as they did with critical thinkers in the past? Anyway, let me get back to talking about the Ariogbo, the Ronsho, and Dr. Blyden. From what I sensed, the Ariogbo is a promising young man, who is indebted to Dr. Blyden for the mentoring she provided during his time at the AT. Yes! I know you are asking me, “Musa D. Ronsho, how did you know?” OK be patient with me, I will tell you. Sometime last year when Ariogbo said he was on his way to the United States, I knew I would see him. With his dearest relatives residing less than five miles away, there is no way Ariogbo would come to Portland, (the Ronsho’s backyard) without spirited encounters with me. Anyone who knows the Ariogbo would agree that he is frankly funny. The Ronsho found out that the Ariogbo candidly love a peaceful environment. To help maintain calm, he seems to know just when to tell a good joke or make a humorous sentence. He has a gift to make others laugh. During one of our meetings, we had a chat about Dr. Sylvia Blyden. This was what the Ariogbo said. Dr. Blyden is the most jovial person to be around that I know. Those who hate her are just wasting their time. Because she is going to be herself and that means being full of life to everyone. When I worked for her, she sometimes come to the office and after we were through with editorial matters, she will just make us laugh. She begins with herself trying to figure out why God made her the way she is. In trying to find out the answer, she never fails to call others including those who write bad things about her. She will joke with them, pull their legs, and tell them, she is looking forward to their trash or treasure on trending topics. One does not have to be a bloodline Blyden to be a relative to Mama Sylvia Dr. Blyden. Believe me that she has unique relationships with individuals from all the tribes in Sierra Leone. Everybody is somebody special to Mama Sylvia. The public does not know but she is one of the most benevolent individuals in the country. I know how she supported and comforted my family and me when I lost my daughter and at other times. She attends funerals, weddings (traditional & formal), special events, and activities most of our politicians consider too small to attend. Not for Mama Sylvia because she is a peoples person and standing shoulder-to-shoulder or sitting close to others gives her the understanding that her humanity is only valid and valued through the eyes of others. She knows the interior of Sierra Leone more than 95% of our leaders and politicians. She never visits the provinces trying to show off that she is a Krio from Freetown. Actually, her nationality (not ethnicity) is always major. Pastor, Mama Sylvia gets phone calls from all over Sierra Leone and the world. What I admire about her, the most is that she takes the time to make everyone feel special. I said wow after the Ariogbos dauntless description of Dr. Sylvia Blyden. I was face to face with the Ariogbo and saw his passionate demeanor as he spoke. I could tell he was sincere because there was this liveliness about him that I judged to be real. It became clear to me that her leadership traits are very powerful. In light of what the author Daniel Coleman wrote in his 1995 book Emotional Intelligence, Dr. Sylvia Blyden has a high degree of just that-Emotional Intelligence. She has what Coleman describes as self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skill. People respects her because of her toughness, admire her because of her determination, and value her because of her vision for other Sierra Leoneans and herself. Dr. Sylvia Blyden is perhaps Sierra Leones most recognizable woman in the world today. To her, you are a brother, sister, aunty, uncle, good friend, best paddy, niece, cousin, or some other kind of good famble. Her cross-tribal sensitivity would take her a long way in Sierra Leone. Dr. Blyden is aware of the emotional makeup of other people. Her services have always been to fellow Sierra Leoneans, not just members of her tribe. In the midst of disappointments and letdowns, Dr. Blyden is optimistic and believes in a resilient people called Sierra Leoneans. She asserts that Sierra Leone can recover from Ebola as the nation recovered from the Civil War. With a good sense of humor laughing at herself, and the commitment to communicate correctly her ideas, the masses will always buy into her vision. In Ronshos words, Dr. Blyden has an upbeat mind-set; she is resourceful, and her insights would serve her well. As she fine-tunes her ability to find common ground and build powerful networks in and outside Sierra Leone, lookout fellow Sierra Leoneans, the first female leader of the nation might just be going through the grooming process right now. On the way, she will continue to make everyone feel super special. Lonta!
