Arizona’s Compadre Baseball Stadium Slated for Demolition August 7, 2014 It once attracted up to 5,000 ticket-paying customers a night, but for more than a decade the Compadre Stadium in Chandler, Arizona has been empty with its infield sometimes used for grazing by area sheep. Now members of the Chandler City Council have voted to approve the demolition of the stadium, which was built in 1985 at a cost of $1.6 million and served for 12 years as the spring training center for the Milwaukee Brewers. The stadium, on the southeast corner of Octollo Road and Alma School Road, is on 64 acres that the Irvine, California-based developer and builder Standard Pacific Homes wants to turn into a 318-home and townhome community. A timetable for the demolition has not been announced, but work is generally expected to begin by late summer.
