Armistice Day (Veterans Day) commemorates the ending of World War - TopicsExpress

Armistice Day (Veterans Day) commemorates the ending of World War I and has been changed to include veterans of subsequent wars. The Armistice or peace agreement was signed between the Allies of World War I and Germany. This document was signed on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918. More than 16 million people, 9 million combatants and 7 million citizens died in this war. This number is greater than the current population totals for MS, AL, LA, and AR combined. As a child I remember this day always being commemorated by the wearing of red poppies. These flowers grew in abundance in the spring of 1915 on the battlefields of Belgium, France and Gallipoli this vivid red flower has become synonymous with great loss of life in war. Thank you, Gd for those that fought to preserve freedom.
