Armley Arch Folly. This is one of Leeds lesser known places. The - TopicsExpress

Armley Arch Folly. This is one of Leeds lesser known places. The Armley Arch folly these days looks like a place you might find in a Bram Stoker novel. This ornate archway can be found down a very long flight of stairs at the bottom of Armley Park. The arch looks very ornamental, and to be built out of stone. But on closer inspection, you can see the arch is actually made out of concrete, quite an unusual feature for a Victorian built structure. The castellated archway bears the date of the formation of the park in 1893. The steps were at one time flanked by stone pillars surmounted by Grecian style urns. This part of the park was originally landscaped, a photo of how it used to look can be seen in the comments section below. But today it is very overgrown, in a dark wooded area that makes it seem an even more mysterious place of hidden Leeds.
