Army soldier injured in Handwara militant attack in Hangah KHAN ZAHOOR W Kupwara, Oct 19: An Army soldier was injured when militants opened fire on a Road Opening Party (ROP) in Handwara Tehsil of this frontier district while as the operation to trace a militant group in Lolab entered its 8th day on Saturday. Sources said that an ROP of 30 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) was fired upon by militants near Sadergund Hangah in Langate area of Handwara at around 7.35 a.m Saturday. Sources said that in the first burst of fire, sepoy Bhim Ravo of 30 RR was injured. Army also retaliated, however the militants managed their escape. Soon after the incident, additional Army soldiers and Special Operation Group (SOG) of JK Police arrived on the spot and cordoned the area. The injured soldier has been shifted to Army’s base hospital in Srinagar for specialized treatment. The forces cordoned off Sadergund and carried out searches of residential houses, however no one was arrested. Later soldiers of 21 RR and Para commandos joined the already deployed forces and started a massive search operation of Hangah forests. The searches were going on when this report was filed. A senior police official said that the militants who attacked Army ROP were two in number. The police official said that militants were sleeping in an orchard. “As the Army entered the orchard, militants opened heavy fire on them and managed their escape. They were heavily armed,” he said. Later during the searches of forests, a bear mauled a soldier of 30 RR identified as Ravi Kumar resident of Jammu. He has been shifted to Army Hospital Srinagar. #KHANZ
