Army’s 10th ID Supports GRP-MILF Signing of Annex of Normalization PANACAN, DAVAO CITY – The Philippine Army’s 10th Infantry Agila Division has expressed full support to the Annex of Normalization signing held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia between the GPH and the MILF this January 25. The Normalization Annex forms an integral part of the Framework Agreement on the Bangsamoro signed by the parties in October 2012, and lays the foundations to a process that aims to ensure human security in Bangsamoro Communities by achieving improved quality of life, livelihood and political participation for its people. Major General Ariel B. Bernardo, chief of the 10th Infantry Division said, “This is the final step towards forging a comprehensive peace agreement with the MILF and we have to be optimistic about it. If as envisioned, that this will ultimately afford genuine peace, sustainable development and more opportunities for Mindanaoans then we by all means support it.” Major General Bernardo stressed though that in his area of responsibility, they will not stop pursuing other armed threat groups. “We have to make sure that our efforts for peace will not be thwarted by other groups who want only chaos in our country. We will continue our focused military operations against other armed threats, and more importantly we will remain committed to winning the peace in the communities.” Bernardo added. The 10th Infantry Division revealed in a press conference last Friday its sustained immersions in a lot more barangays in its area this year, as part the Peace and Development Outreach Program or PDOP, the division’s grassroots level implementation of the Internal Peace Security Plan “Bayanihan”. In the same conference Major General Bernardo lauded the 10ID “AGILA” soldiers under his command for a clean human rights record since the program’s implementation in late 2010.
