Around 1997 -98 I was on the hunt for old weird instruments. I would hassle everyone...."What is the weirdest instrument you know...?" and then Id try to find one. Id heard about Optigans and I stumbled across the Optigannally yours album in Portland and knew I needed one but it was impossible to find. Also my Mellotron service and recources man Markus Resch had more or less said that if I got an Optigan I wasnt his friend anymore. Then one day I found an ad online for an Orchestron Model A for 400 dollars with 6 discs. I built a case and flew over to the U.S to get it but my adventure was stopped by a storm in Louisiana. New arrangements were made and a month later it showed up in Stockholm. It was glitchy and noisy and by accident i blew out one of my stereospeakers. But I was crying when I finally heard it...I thought it was one of the most beautiful sounds Ive ever heard. Weird and archaic, filled with atmosphere. And my love for the instrument continues...
