Around 2 am Saturday morning the Claremont Fire Dept. was toned out for a possible structure fire at 36 River Road. Upon arrival crews found fire in the basement area of the home and smoke throughout the building. A fire crew stretched a 1 3/4 line into the building, accessed the fire via the interior basement stairway and extinguished the fire as other crews set up fans to vent smoke. Firefighters checked for extension on all floors of the home and the fire was called under control around 3 am. Firefighters continued to overhaul hot spots and the cause of the fire remains under investigation. The Red Cross was called to assist the residents. Bill Binder Photos
