Around 5000 people marched through the streets of Tel Aviv last night in the second annual march for animals. The participants called for an end to animal cruelty in the agriculture, animal testing, and clothing industries. Anonymous for Animal Rights activist Ronen Bar spoke at the rally, stating that we as a society, must look in the mirror and tell ourselves the truth. We as a society enslave, kill, abuse and ignore hundreds of millions of animals every year, and we are here today to put an end to it. We know this is a marathon, and we are ready for a long fight. Recent Big Brother winner and ALF Israel activist Tal Gilboa also spoke at the rally, saying The law allows unfathomable horrors. The law allows murder, mutilations without any anasthetic, and separating newborns from their mothers. The law allows a living hell, and I know because Ive seen this hell and come back. Laws are changed by society, not by politicians, and were the society that will change the law. Other speakers included Ori Shavit, Let the Animals Live CEO Yael Arkin, and youth representative Sahar Morgenstern. The organizers labeled this the beginning of a new tradition, of an annual parade to bring animal rights to the fore in Israel.
