Around 900 Kashmiri policemen rose in revolt and went on rampage in the Police Training School Manigam in Ganderbal dist of Jammu and Kashmir after they were asked to go for Amarnath Yatra duty, beginning later this month. According to Media reports, these policemen were recruited mostly from old Srinagar city as part of the regime’s policy to absorb the youth in police to discourage them from freedom path, on one hand, and curb the pro-freedom demonstrations through these youth, on the other. The youth were asked to report for Amarnath Yatra duty that begins from June 28 but they refused to obey the orders and went on rampage breaking the windowpanes of the Training Center and the parked vehicles inside the Center. They were raising slogans against the police high-ups and blocked the Srinagar-Leh highway. Some of the police officers at the training center were caught inside. Police from Kangan and nearby Ganderbal rushed to the spot and took positions on either side of the highway. . The recruits were protesting when last reports came in. In early 2011, the authorities went for massive recruitment drive of youth in police from Srinagar downtown. In Kashmir Police history in 1990’s police in Srinagar HQ also held big agitation against Indian authorities on their policies against Kashmiris.
