Around Town TODAY A public hearing will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the Southwest Arkansas Planning and Development District building, located at 101 Harvey Couch Blvd. in Magnolia. How to overcome childhood pain will be discussed at Lifetree Café at 5:30 p.m. Admission to the 60-minute event is free. Snacks and beverages are available. Lifetree Café is located at Lifetree Cafe - Magnolia, 320 W. Main in Magnolia. The City of Waldo will have a finance meeting at 6 p.m. at the Waldo City Hall. All meetings are open to the public. WEDNESDAY - August 6 S.A.Y.S. and Family Care Fair will present Back to School Bash from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. at 301 S. Boundary St. in Magnolia. There will be free food and free school supplies. Food will be served between 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Parents and kids must be present to receive school supplies. No Exceptions. THURSDAY - August 7 Annual HOPE Landing Talent Show featuring the children of HOPE Landing at 7 p.m. at the South Arkansas Arts Center. SATURDAY - August 9 The Magnolia Jr. Charity League will hold the third annual “Cram the Bus” promotion from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Wal-Mart parking lot. Benefit children of Columbia County - Magnolia, Emerson, Taylor, CCS. Drop off locations Stephens Country Store, Jennifer’s, BancorpSouth main bank, FBT main branch. Donations of school supplies are needed, and financial is accepted as well. Back to School Bash will be held at 10 a.m. at the C.W. Easter, Sr. Memorial Foundation Center in Waldo. MONDAY - August 11 The Waldo City Council will meet at 6 p.m. at the Waldo City Hall. All meetings are open to the public. TUESDAY - August 12 Columbia County Courthouse Restoration Commission will meet at 5 p.m. at the Columbia County Courthouse. Anyone interested in the restoration of our courthouse is welcome to join. The Southwest Arkansas Bluegrass Association will hold its regular monthly meeting at 7 p.m. at the El Compadre Restaurant on Hwy. 79 North in Magnolia. For more information, one can call 870-235-1415. SATURDAY - August 16 A real estate workshop is being offered from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Southern Arkansas University. The workshop has been approved by the State Real Estate Commission for six hours of continuing education credits. Fee for the course is $60. For more information or to register, call 870-235-4005. Bill Ladd will lead the instruction and several topics will be covered. The class will meet at SAU’s Business Building, room 205. This course is being co-sponsored by the Arkansas Real Estate Training Academy and the SAU Division of Continuing Education. The 2nd Annual Fight Against Multiple Myeloma Cancer Ride for a Cure will be held at The American Legion in Magnolia. Registration and line-up will be from 9-10 a.m. All other activities start after the bikes return. Cost is $15 for registration without a t-shirt, $10 for raffle and $5 for general admission.
