Arrest Made in Double Homicide SUSPECT-David Underwood On August 7, 2014, at 8:05 AM, Hemet Police 911 Dispatch Center received a call of shots fired in the area of Hemet West Mobile Estates, 5001 W. Florida Avenue. Officers arrived quickly and located two people deceased inside their mobile home. Hemet Police Detectives diligently followed up on leads from evidence located at the scene and witness information. Through further investigation, Detectives immediately located a person of interest, determined to be the son of the two homicide victims. After only nine hours of investigation and corroboration with other outside agencies, the son was located and detained in Anaheim at approximately 5:00 pm on August 7, 2014. Chief Dave Brown announced the arrest at a town hall meeting this morning at the Hemet West Estates, where the crime occurred. He assured the residents that this was a domestic incident that probably could not have been prevented by law enforcement. The Chief told residents, “For the safety, well-being, and peace of mind of the entire community, we knew we had to identify and apprehend the person responsible by sundown. That is precisely what we did.” Chief Brown continued, “We are confident that the individual responsible for this senseless crime is in our custody. I’m very proud of the teamwork that led to the swift apprehension.” The victims are identified as Michael (71 yrs) and Laura (68 yrs) Underwood of Hemet, CA. Detectives are still sorting out the motive for this heinous crime. Anyone with further information about this case is asked to call HPD at 951.765.2400.
