Arrest in North Park dispensary shoot out By Lyndsay Winkley2:12 p.m.Sept. 24, 2014 NORTH PARK — A 21-year-old wanted in connection with an April shoot out at a North Park medical marijuana dispensary that left one man dead and another wounded was arrested Tuesday morning in Texas, San Diego police said. Jonathan Collins was taken into custody at an apartment southeast of Houston, San Diego police Lt. Paul Rorrison said. Collins was jailed in Harris County on suspicion of robbery and attempted murder and was awaiting extradition, Rorrison said. San Diego homicide detectives, Houston police and the U.S. Marshals were there when Collins was arrested. Two gunmen held up the dispensary, on Ray Street near North Park Way, to steal marijuana on April 25 about 12:20 p.m., San Diego police homicide Lt. Manuel Del Toro said at the time. A security guard at the business and at least one of the robbers shot each other. The wounded robber died inside the dispensary, which was operating without a business permit. Neighboring shopkeepers said the business had been open for only a few days, after the owner spent about a month moving in and installing security systems. Several people said the hired armed guard first showed up days before the shooting. Witnesses told police the surviving robber ran into a nearby alley and fled in a white sedan left there. It hit a fence as it sped away, Del Toro said. Rorrison wouldnt say what role Collins is suspecting of playing in the crime.
