Arrested Sopore youth students, not LeT cadres’ Sopore residents demand CBI probe Refuting police claims of “busting a Lashkar-e-Toiba terror module, dozens of residents of Bomai village in Sopore staged a massive demonstration at Partap Park here on Wednesday saying the youth arrested are students and alleged that the police have “concocted the story”. On October 26, police claimed to have busted the module of the militant outfit by arresting eight members of the group from different areas of Sopore town and adjoining areas. “The local boys were recruited into the outfit to build an alleged network of LeT operatives in the town, a police spokesman had said in a statement. The protesters, most of them relatives of the arrested youth, said they were shocked upon hearing that they have been labeled as militants. “My brother Sajad Ahmad Bhat of Harvan Sopore is a student of MA Sociology. He along with other some local youth was asked by the police through local Sarpanch Muhammad Muzaffar to come to police station for some questioning, said Ajaz Ahmad, a protester. He added that all the local youth who were asked by Bomai police to make presence in police station went there along with local sarpanch. They were detained and the families of these youth were asked that they would be released next morning, he added. The protesters, who were prevented from reaching the Press Enclave by the police, demanded an impartial probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the matter in the “interest of justice”. Around a dozen protesters were detained by the police as they tried to cross the busy Residency Road.
