Arrested for Aggravated Assault: Dean C. Hofmeister, 23 years of age, of Coeur d’Alene A Coeur d’Alene Police officer patrolling the downtown area this morning at 2:05am (12/14/14) observed two males in what appeared to be a verbal altercation. One of the males was holding a hand gun at his side. Officer Nielsen stated he was driving past the area of 3rd St. and E. Coeur d’Alene Ave when he saw the two males in a parking lot area. He said it appeared they were in an argument. Officer Nielsen said suspect Dean Hofmeister was holding a gun out at his side, and the victim appeared to be stepping away from him. As Officer Nielsen attempted to make contact with Hofmeister he observed him put the gun inside his coat jacket and start to walk away. After several verbal commands Hofmeister complied with Officer Nielsen’s instructions and he was placed under arrest. The 25 year-old male victim and three witnesses stated prior to the officers arrival Hofmeister pulled his gun on the victim and stuck it in his face. The victim said he and Hofmeister had originally bumped into each other inside the Rocker Room Bar. He said words were exchanged between them at that time. He stated that after he left the bar he and his friends were walking at 3rd St and E. Coeur d’Alene Ave when they saw Hofmeister. He said Hofmeister recognized him and made a derogatory statement to him then pulled a gun from on top of his vehicle and pointed it at his face. Hofmeister was transported to the jail and booked for aggravated for aggravated assault and carrying concealed weapon.
