Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez believes the rigours of the Championship have prepared him for Champions League football. The 22-year-old Argentine is set to make his European bow against Anderlecht in Wednesday’s Group D clash, with Wojciech Szczesny suspended after being sent off against Galatasaray, and backup David Ospina out injured. The third-choice keeper played 15 times on loan at Championship side Sheffield Wednesday last season, however, and maintains that his stint in the second-tier has made him a much better shot-stopper. ‘Ive been working on being more commanding in the box. I didnt have any experience before and I went to the Championship, which is all about crosses and making the right decision,’ he told the Daily Mirror. ‘I learnt a lot because I played nearly 20 games so Im a completely different keeper now. I was working really hard and I played really well in quite a few wins and gained a lot of experience. ‘Ive been working with Wojciech for nearly four years already. Since I came to Arsenal Ive been working with him.’ -JCon
