Arson, Sec 144 CrPC ahead of bandh SHILLONG: Ahead of Monday’s 12-hour Meghalaya bandh called by several pressure groups demanding implementation of inner line permit (ILP) in the State, incidents of arson were reported from different parts of city on Saturday even as the East Khasi Hills district has imposed Section 144 CrPC as a precautionary measure. In the wee hours of Saturday morning, unidentified miscreants attempted to torch several shops at Polo Bazar and at around 5.30 am, unknown miscreants hurled a petrol bomb at a shop “Yummy Fast Food” belonging to one Prakash Gurung at Polo Bazar, Shillong. The shop was damaged partially. Earlier on the same night, miscreants attempted to set ablaze a house of one Bhagwati Prasad Bajoria, which was rented out, at Umsohsun, Shillong but here also the damage was minimum. The miscreants left a jar behind with 5 litres of petrol after police rushed to the spot. Again on the same night, miscreants set on fire a motorcycle at Langkyrding. The motorcycle bearing registration number ML-05J-3405 belongs to one Vivion Richard Nongsiej. On Thursday, unidentified miscreants hurled a petrol bomb at Narsing Akharah in Lumdiengjri. However, there was no report of any injury but a house was partially damaged in the incident. NESO extends support to bandh: Meanwhile, the North East Students’ Union (NESO) has extended support to the 12-hour bandh called by various social organisations of the state on Monday (from 5am to 5pm) saying that it would continue to support any agitation called by these organisations in the future until Inner Line Permit (ILP) system is implemented in the state. Supporting the demand for the implementation of ILP in the state, NESO chairman Samuel Jyrwa said that the outright rejection of the Chief Minister to implement this mechanism to tackle influx is an indication that the government has some hidden motive behind it’s unwillingness to implement the ILP. “We condemn the adamant attitude of the state government, which has been using delaying tactics since last year and showed no honest intention to resolve the matter,” Jyrwa said. The NESO chairman also stated that the organization would continue to fight for the implementation of ILP in all the Northeastern states of the country.
